Ed and Marti's House Building Project
Wasche Road, Dickerson, Maryland
March 2001 to April 2004

Our painters were in too much of a hurry and sprayed way too much ceiling white on over not quite ready primer and we had some flaking and peeling that pulled the drywall compound off the joints. But, since our painter was paid cash the day he completed the job he was not very anxious to come fix it. There is a lesson here..... So I got up on the scaffold ( always an interesting time ) and scraped and re-spackled the seams.

Ed is sanding baseboard prior to staining. We stained the white pine to approximately match the red oak

What a gal!

Marti hammers plywood before Kevin gets to it with the screws...

Mart is edging in the walls while Kevin screws down plywood underlayment for the ceramic tile.

A closer shot so Amy can see Kevin working hard...

And the boy is now staining door casing trim.

Marti painted the entire house with the finish coats twice. It took nearly two weeks and she was sick and tired of painting when done.  See the ladder shots on the next page too.....

Heads up in the skylight!

In the master shower Rocky from Weller Tile applies the scratch coat on metal lathe as the first layer in three for the floated wall. This process, invented by the ancient Romans, is well over 2000 thousand years old, except for the metal lathe part...

The next day, Kevin screeds the basecoat on top of the scratch coat and...

squares and plumbs the walls in preparation for the tile setting. The sticks give Kevin a form so the screeded wall is flat.

and the tile goes in.

Carefully. The step plates are mortared into the tile field and the tiles cut out around them. Moving day is approaching fast....
