Ed and Marti's House Building Project
Wasche Road, Dickerson, Maryland
March 2001 to June 2004

Since March of 2001 Marti and I have been clearing, mowing and clearing 12 acres of land in Dickerson Maryland that we call "The Property".

The Property and the house we are building on it are the culmination of dreams we have shared since we first met in 1971. We are working very hard to make it all we have dreamed about over countless bottles of wine for the last 32 years, such a long time and a scary number of corks....

I know it may seem strange to some, but many cold winter nights were spent with paper and pencils sketching floor plans and elevations for the many iterations of designs we came up with. Some people play cards, we drew houses... and played cards too. Last winter the stars aligned and we created a design that we liked and took the steps forward to getting it built. Caveco Homes in Cavetown Maryland builds panel houses. Not prefab, but factory built wall panels that are erected on-site just like a normal stick-built house. They supply everything wooden from mudplates to roof trusses. Tom Carr at Caveco spent a few hours working over our drawings with us and transferred them into blueprints that we could take to get permits. Once we had the permits it was a go to build and stuff started happening fast.

Please take a look at these pages and let us know if you enjoy going along with us on our great adventure!
