Ed and Marti's House Building Project
Wasche Road, Dickerson, Maryland
March 2001 to April 2004

Kevin waits for Ed to bring the brickmold for these two windows. He is sitting on the roof over the Solarium Hallway.

Like any young man, he likes things that go bang.

Ed uses the table saw to rip down the brickmold to fit tight around the windows. The molding is a new product made of cellular PVC plastic.

It works like wood but will never ever rot and it holds paint forever... or so they say. Bottom line is it is maintenance free. Important for those who are liking maintenance less and less... :)

Ed and Kevin apply the brickmold from a makeshift scaffold. Those rears are a great example of before and after!

Ed and Marti put the finishing touches to the housewrap in preparation for the siding crew due soon....

I prefer the ground level....

and the siding is done! We used a product called Hardieplank which is 80% portland cement and 20% wood fibers. It is hard as a rock but cuts and nails like wood. It holds paint for a long time because it does not absorb water and it does not burn.

Carroll Insulation arrived at 7AM one morning and had the whole house done in 3 hours.

Who knows what we are looking at......

The drywall truck arrived one week later and put 240 sheets of 4x12 drywall through the windows.....

Richard Cole of Cole Drywall works on stilts on scaffold. The seam he is mudding is 19 feet high...

Stanley ( the guy with no hat ) leads his crew in hanging the rock. On a good day they can hang about 130 sheets....

and several days later we have rooms with walls!

It still looks bigger than it did on paper.....

The skylight well works nicely to bring soft daylight into the end of the kitchen.

Allegheny Power arrived last week and connected the power so we are now off the generators and it is somewhat quieter now....Two service wires bring 400 amps inside.

The lineman makes all his connections with the power live. He is working on the neutral here, but the top line has 7200 volts on it. zip!

and now that we have power, we have heat! Yahoo!, just in time for spring.

As of today, the drywall is finished ready for sanding and the painter arrives on Tuesday. The hardwood flooring gets stocked on Monday and goes down on Wednesday. We are on target we think for an April 28th move-in.

This link is a panorama out our bedroom window....
